Episode 9 – Reconcile

Plot: Months after the near destruction of the Bloomfield base, several survivors have some defining moments in their lives.

Synopsis:

Our return the Fear begins with a time skip. We’re in season 7 of the main show now (August 2012) in terms of timeline. With the near destruction of most of Bloomfield, the base has been shrunken down considerably with most of the torn down houses turned into crop fields and walls repaired, but now with less area overall. Our first shot of season 5B will be of an open field north of Bloomfield and a single infected walking towards the base. It’ll be just before mid-day. We’ll trail on them for some time before an arrow goes through one of its eye sockets and kills it. We’ll see that it was Kwahu, who then informs people on the ground below that another infected got past. A person below will go off to tell somebody, but before they can go a few steps we see Madison walk up and informs the two that it was about time to check on the pits.

Madison now looks like how she looked at the start of season 4 on the main show, but now she has a new weapon: A slightly longer hammer made from a chuck of metal, a railroad spike, and a long metal handle with a woven leather grip, making it more of a war hammer than a hammer used for construction. She looks hardened, but refined, a full leader now. After her introduction she heads back to the school. The building has been repaired since the siege, but the attack has left its scars. Windows are boarded up, many rooms have been changed for new purposes. Most of the military equipment such as the radio, guns, and documents have been left. As she walks through a hallway, she passes by the basement where the infected experiments were going on and where Alicia was being treated. Stopping to look at the door, Madison feels unease. The CRM have not returned since the attack and the words that Captain Peter told her about them still haunt her to this day…

Suddenly a voice brings her back to reality and Madison sees Strand coming towards her. He now wears a long-collared shirt and jeans that’s kind of a workman’s attire, very opposite in attire of the rich man he once was. Madison will inform Strand that it seems they need to recharge the station north. Nodding, Strand says it’s been long enough since the last time and asks if he’ll be going out. Madison shakes her head at this and says she’ll do it, he’s got to get some fuel. Strand will smile and say that it’s so odd that after all they’ve been through that they can finally relax some. To this Madison will say that maybe they can finally settle down. But there is work to do and the crop fields need to be looked after, so she goes off to grab a few people to go with her. As she’s walking out, we cut to the intro.

Upon return, we cut to the San Juan River Lodge up the river. Since the near destruction of Bloomfield, the area has been turned into another settlement to expand themselves. It’s situated close to a dam, perfect for another community, and has walls and a river on half the base to provide protection. The first character we will see will be Daniel, who we see in his new home preparing for his day. He’ll see him giving himself a shave, doing stretches, and looking at himself in the mirror. Skidmark will stretch as he wakes up too and eat some food that Daniel puts out for him. When he’s all done, Daniel walks out into the sun and slightly bustling community, but not before telling the cat to stay inside. We’ll be greeted by a few people, including Yoana, who greets Daniel with a smile and a wave.

Waving and responding that he will, Daniel heads to one of the stored vehicles on site. After around a 30-second tour of the San Juan River Community (SJRC) and its gardens, armory, and housing (mostly trailers with a few buildings constructed by the residence) we’ll reach the storage. A look around will show that on the other side of the river were once houses that were torn down to make the walls and extra buildings in the river community. As Daniel makes his way over to the vehicle storage, he’ll spot John Dorie walking out of his home with June by his side. Watching them for a bit, he makes a decision and goes over to greet them and ask the former cop for some time with him. Before they part, John and June will kiss. Both men will then head towards the vehicle storage.

Daniel will check out a vehicle with the guard there and say he’s going to check in at the dam. As they pass beyond the gate and take the main road, we’ll keep on the same shot of them exiting as June watches them leave. She’ll stretch then and be approached by a man who says she needs to look at something. Both will walk towards the clinic, along the way June will be given some happy greetings from the residence. Only a small smile and a wave comes from her as sits down with the man and he shows a rash on their arm. As the arm is examined Yoana will visit, greet the nurse, and ask how she’s feeling, similar to how Daniel greeted John. June will be preoccupied with her work and not glance at the rabbi as she continues inspecting the rash. After declaring the condition for the man and picking out some medicine for the ailment, the nurse will look up at Yoana and tell her she’s okay.

Sitting next to the nurse, Yoana will say that she and John have been getting closer of late. Nodding, June will say that it feels good again for them to have a place to stay. And they’re together (she thinks) and it feels better than her alone. It feels a little rushed, but John, more than anybody before or after the dead began to rise, has been somebody she could rely on for love, protection, and friendship. She’s lucky to have him in her life. Yoana listens closely while June continues, telling the rabbi about using so many fake names back in early days of apocalypse. Before it all went down, she had terrible luck and people took advantage of her. She tries to talk about her lost daughter, but can’t do it, skipping halfway through to how she had to go from place to place and lie to live. But John… John was there for her despite her wanting to flee and treated her, a total stranger, with care. Didn’t ask for anything, just was nice to her. And she now believes that leaving him back then was a mistake. Curious, Yoana will ask what it was like after June left John after they first met.

At first June will be quiet… then as she begins to speak start to look over her medical supplies and see what she needs more of. She’ll talk about how she wanted to go back to him, but her times with other significant men in her life kept on leading to pain and suffering and, after losing her daughter, she felt she couldn’t risk it with anybody. John just felt too good to be true. As she’s saying this, June will notice she’s running low on a certain drug and speak this out loud, muttering she’ll need to go out and get some more. As she continues talking about how John treated her kindly even though he barely knew her and compare it to her previous… male companions, we’ll have past June spy on some men beating up a helpless person and taking their stuff.

“I saw so much out there and my time with John… didn’t know that was real or not.”

But Yoana reconfirms that her time with John did change her for the better. June will smile a bit and say it did, as she never would have stayed in Yuma or with other people if she hadn’t met John. And because of that they were reunited. Though she will say that being around many people isn’t something she’s fully comfortable with. Even before the end, she had to be on her guard and was suspicious of a lot of people after being taken advantage too often. Yoana will put a hand on her shoulder and reassure her that time heals all wounds. At the mention of wounds though June’s smile vanishes as she thinks of Alicia. Yoana sees it and asks if it’s about Alicia, to which June nods. The rabbi will then say that she’ll have her chance soon to talk to her. June will nod, though the worry doesn’t disappear. When both finish their meals, the nurse and rabbi stand to their feet and go to their duties, but not before June thanks Yoana for being there for her and the others. Smiling, Yoana tells her it’s her job to keep hope alive and it’s something she’s more than happy to do.

Returning to Daniel and John, both are continuing down the road to the Navajo Dam. As it comes into sight, Daniel will pull out his radio and informs the guards on watch that they’re coming in. We’ll get a shot of a person signaling from a small encampment on the hill above, showing that they got the message. They’ll make a small detour off the road to the small powerplant situated at the base of the dam. It’s definitely not as big or complex a dam as the Tijuana one, but it has remained undamaged. Sadly though, the system has been at times finicky, so electricity has been mostly for small periods between the afternoon and darkness. Both men will talk with the people who work at and guard the powerplant, asking for updates and any other updates, which is how they and we will learn these pieces of information.

After this both men will head to the main settlement near the lake. The marina, once filled with happy, cheerful families, has been turned into a settlement against the dead. It’s still a work in progress though, with most people still cleaning up the place since this network of communities is still growing. Most of the people here are living on the shore or on the boats near the shore while the former restaurant and boats farther out are being cleared. What few buildings on land there are, as well as RVs, have been set up as lookout defenses. When both reach the marina, John and Daniel greet the guards on shore and ask for an update. They’ll be told that they’ve cleared out the boats under the canopies, but the larger boats out in the open need work. And there are still boats out on the water that need attending to. John will ask if they’ve used any guns and the woman they’re talking to will shake her head, saying they want to conserve right now and they haven’t been able to find many bullets.

Nodding in approval, John and Daniel will ask for a few volunteers to help them clear out some more. Four people will join them and the group walks onto the docks and down the long path towards the section of ships out further on the lake. As they get closer to a few of the larger boats we’ll see infected in a few of them. Each of group separate into pairs, with two pairs killing the dead and the last pair dragging the dead bodies to the shore. John and Daniel pair up (obviously). Their first boat is an easy fight, with both dispatching the small group of infected on board. After we watch them kill these infected, both will pull the lifeless infected onto tarps to be dragged onto solid ground, then head to another boat. John will ask Daniel for some words of wisdom: He’s a little concern that it might be too soon for him to “pop the question” to June, saying that they might still have much to learn about each other.

“We had our time at the cabin, but it’s been nothing but fight after fight since we met each other again. We never really got to sit down and just talk it out.”

He’ll emphasize this by stabbing his knife into an infected skull. We’ll see Daniel stabbing another with his machete and dragging this one onto a new tarp. At first Daniel will be a little condescending like he was in season four during the early days of knowing John Dorie. This will cause John to scowl at Daniel as the former mercenary tells John his kind of love is more for more fool-hardy youth. But then he goes into how, when he was younger, he met a woman. A woman who he fell in love with despite his home country being at war. He’ll go more in depth that it wasn’t the time to find love back then, it was the time live and survive. People were dying, being robbed, homes broken into and people were scared. He’ll go in depth of how war-torn El Salvador was during its civil war and what it meant for him and Griselda. But they eventually took the chance and made it and started a new life together. As he finished this, he’ll look at John and say:

“Maybe you might pop it too soon. But you also went to hell and back to find her. And despite all that happened she stayed by your side. Get to know her more, but what you’ve done… no man not in love would do what you did.”

John will crack a smile at this, but add that Daniel might need to learn to maybe change his tone someday. Daniel will shake his head at this as he kills another infected. Just as they watch their newest victims being dragged off though, both hear a scream from one of the boats. Both of them, along with the other pair, race across the dock towards the noise. We’ll see the other two helpers fighting off five infected, with two trying to pin the woman down. Our main pair hop onto the boat first and start attacking the dead, killing one each as they make their way towards the struggling couple. Just as the one pinning the woman is about to bite her shoulder blade, John knocks it over and stomps on it before it can get up. But just before Daniel can finish off the last one, we see several more coming up and one gets very close to Daniel. John once more comes to the rescue, but is immediately trapped by another of the undead newcomers. This time Daniel saves him, but before he kills this infected it scratches his face. Once all the dead are taken care of, John asks if Daniel is alright, to which it’s okay and shows that it’s barely a cut. The former Salavadorian though will hold his head a bit as he says this however. Still, both head out to treat the wound before it can get infected.

As the two get off the boat, the pair who they rescued thank them, adding that they couldn’t imagine losing each other. John will ask if they are together and the man says they met not long before the dead began to rise. They are kind of shocked that they managed to keep it together throughout all of this mayhem. John will nod and continue walking with Daniel, mentioning that they’ll need to clear the boats on the water later. Then he’ll add that maybe times of survival is when love is most needed. As they continue down the dock we cut to black.

When we return, we meet with Strand, who is walking up to the Bloomfield oil refinery to check on Farah. Since the attack it has been reinforced with some walls of the old Bloomfield base, with a few armed guards on hand to protect it. Strand will wave up at one of the guards, who lets them him in. As he walks about, we’ll get a view on how the updated oil field, seeing it more functional than before with multiple people keeping the place running. Soon enough Strand meets Farah, who gives him a smile and a wave. She’s made herself a head scarf to go with her work shirt. The spear she’s recovered now has a metal weight on the blunt end, making it both a stabbing and smashing weapon.

Strand will ask how her weapon has been doing for her, to which she’ll respond that she’s getting better, that it’s all practice, twirling it with one hand. Smirking, he’ll tell Farah that she has to let John teach her more how to use a gun. Farah nods and says she already has plans to have this training soon. As they’re walking, we’ll see some workers at the field working the machinery and see some containers of fuel being filled. Looking over the pile of filled barrels, Strand marks down all they have and makes updates to their storage list. He’ll then commend Farah for keeping things together, that with her help they might be one of the few places left in the west with easy access to fuel. Farah looks pleased but says it’s not just her making this possible. Plus, it’s more luck the CRM kept a person who had previous work in the oil industry. After a pause, she’ll ask if he’s had any luck with the radio equipment in finding out if he can contact anybody. Shaking his head, Strand will say there’s nothing so far and recounts how his last real attempt at radioing somebody was with a cosmonaut.

Before Farah can inquire about this, a call is made from the walls that some infected are coming. When Strand asks for how many, the guard says only a couple. Nodding, he’ll call out that he and Farah can take care of it. Both will exit the gates and advance towards the small crowd, with Strand pulling out a machete to join Farah’s spear. As they begin their fight against the undead, we’ll see both have become more experienced in close combat since last time. No experts like Jesus or Daryl, but now clearly able to handle themselves. We’ll see both use Daniel’s technique in knocking out the legs of the dead before killing them, along with Farah using both sides of her spear to kill the infected. Once they’re all dealt with, Strand will inform Farah that her little invention seems to be doing well, that any swarms they’ve had are much smaller than normal. Though they might need to clean them out more since Madison is off to clear the one up north. Farah will nod and smile, saying that in this world it seems all people think about is strength and quick cunning. But there needs to be long term plans. Chuckling, Strand will say that they really need to talk more often.

We’ll cut away to a house where Alicia is sitting on her bed. Her expression is blank, almost lifeless. She hasn’t been the same since recovering from her bite and amputation. We’ll focus on her reading a book with one hand. Then a door opens and Madison comes in to check on her and saying she has food on the table. Without a word or change in expression, she’ll get off the bed and join her mother in the kitchen for lunch. They’ll be eating sandwiches from slightly dated bread and water. Madison will tell her daughter that she’ll be going for a cleanup soon, but once she’s back they’ll be going to visit the San Juan River Community. Alicia says nothing, merely eating her food in silence. Madison calls her name, but she gets no response. She calls again and Alicia looks up, listening as her mother tells her that Farah and June are still working on getting her a new arm/ hand. Alicia barely responds, giving just a simple response in a half-hearted tone.

“Alicia… it’s going to be okay.”

But Madison’s response, instead of cheering up her daughter, causes Alicia to stand up and yell at her, bellowing at her mom that it’s not okay. Alicia’s stump, in her anger, accidentally hits the glass of water and knocks it over, causing her to have a further fit of rage. Before Madison can get a good word in, Alicia runs to her bedroom door and slams it shut. At first Madison rushes to the door to get her daughter to come out, but before she can knock, she hears her daughter’s cries and stops, her fist inches from the door. Deciding to leave, Madison first tells Alicia that she’ll be back soon, but she’ll always be there for her, adding that she’s, “The most important thing in her life.”

From inside the bedroom, we hear Madison walk away and Alicia, holding herself close on her bed, wipes away tears as she looks at her stump. There’s a real sense of powerlessness about her, how she feels she can’t do anything now with just one hand. She looks at her butterfly knife on her desk and she begins to flip it open and shut with her left hand. She’ll perform a few tricks with it, yet nothing seems to change in her. Looking out the window, Alicia will see people toiling out on the fields. It’s clear that the terrain with its lack of nutrients and too much sun have stifled production, but there are some crops. Watching them, Alicia feels powerless to help.

We’ll cut back to Madison at this point, who is walking over to a small group preparing a truck to head north. We’ll recognize Ian among the group, who notices Madison and asks how it’s going. After thinking about it, he’s probably going to become a side character on the show since I feel I can expand him more. She’ll be short and say that Alicia isn’t doing well, to which Ian will nod and get in the vehicle with her. As the group drives off, Ian will talk about his time in the army and how his comrades who lost limbs were never the same since they lost them. He’ll add that his own father lost a leg when he was in Vietnam and life was never the same for him. Things can get better, but life will never return to normal.

Madison acknowledges this, adding that it’s kind of obvious that life never returns to normal after these horrible events. Hell, the dead are walking and she’s turned from a high school counselor to a leader of a large group. This is the new normal now. Ian will be silent at this, then repeat Madison’s words, “The new normal,” to himself. We’ll stick on them as they continue to drive until Madison sees the location they’re going to and heads off the road. Once the vehicle stops the doors will open, people will get out of the back, and the sound of chimes starts to be heard, along with the sound of infected. Here we’ll see that Farah’s “invention” is a windchime trap, similar to the ones the Governor had in season three of the main show that attracted walkers to pits. Just like with Governor, the trap has a pit right beside it, full of infected that groan and reach up once they see the humans above them. We’re going to say around 35 to 45 infected are in the pit. Unlike the Governor though, Madison and her team are here to destroy them, not use them as weapons. She’ll ask everyone if they’re ready as she pulls out her war hammer.

We’ll cut away here to Alicia, who is walking to the west side of the Bloomfield base. She has her butterfly knife in her left pocket, a rope behind her back, and is trying not to be noticed. Once she reaches the gates though she is forced to acknowledge the guards and tell them she wants to go out. At first the guard refuses, since she only has one arm, and her mother wants her safe. Alicia tries again, walking up to the battlement and insisting she needs to get outside for a bit. The guard will still say no and Alicia goes quiet. We’ll keep the camera on her, letting a bit of tension build up. Then she’ll make her move, kicking the guard’s knee to the ground and tying the rope around a poll holding the battlement up. Before the guard can grab her, Alicia slides down the rope and wall to the ground outside and runs off into the small town ahead. The guard calls out to her as she runs off and as we keep on a long shot of her and the scenery around her, we’ll cut to black.

When we return, we’re back with Madison and her team as they are about to start killing those trapped in the pit. Everyone is armed with a spear or a long melee weapon. Madison will then begin, smashing the head of her hammer into the skull of a rotted infected. The others begin to follow her lead, killing the dead from the edges of the pit. We’ll watch them all as they lower the number of dead down below until one of them strikes an infected in the head and their spears becomes stuck. As the man tugs on the spear the ground they’re standing on breaks off and they fall into the pit. By this point around ten infected are left and they begin to surround the man.

Madison calls to the others to distract the dead as she hops down to rescue her companion. We’ll see her using her weapon with skill, killing several infected with her weapon with only a few problems. I want a similar kind of scene to Travis killing the dead in the first episode of season 3. Meanwhile, the fallen man is having trouble fighting two dead people, getting pinned by one after kicking another one away. As we watch the pair struggle some, a hammer blow from Madison kills the dead as it tries to bite the man’s neck. Then she finishes off the dead by stomping on the last one’s head. After slaying the dead, both are brought back up to level ground and Madison signals the others to finish their job. One of them will bring out some unused oil and pours it on the motionless dead bodies. After they’re set alight, Madison will watch as the bodies burn before turning back to the vehicle. As she makes her way to it though her walkie talkie goes off. Holding the button down, she holds it to her ear.

We cut away before Madison can hear what’s said to her to Alicia, who is on her own in the town west of Bloomfield. It’s very barren and lifeless, where at first the only thing moving is some rubbish rolling or blowing in the wind. Alicia doesn’t mind this, only looking for… something. She’ll look at an abandoned laundromat that looks to be once a stronghold or home for survivors and just stare at it. Without a word, she’ll walk towards it and knock to find out if any infected are inside. After a long pause she’ll hear a few and take a step back. Then, using her butterfly knife, she’ll break the lock and pull the door out to let two infected walk into the sun. Walking backwards while keeping them in site, she’ll take on the first infected by kicking it into the other. While it doesn’t knock over the first one, the second infected is knocked onto its back and Alicia dashes around the stunned first one to stab the second, downed infected in the brain. Before the other infected can turn around and attack her, Alicia slams her body into it so it falls face first into the pavement. This further dazing of that infected allows Alicia to pin it on its back and stab them in the head.

Getting to her feet, Alicia will be attacked by another infected that was late in joining its friends. She’ll be pinned to the ground and her knife will be knocked out of her hand. We’ll see her struggling with the dead, using her stump arm to push the dead person’s snapping jaws away from her as her only hand reaches out for her knife. We’ll focus on the struggle for the bit as Alicia struggles to grab a weapon to knock off the infected pinning her down. In the end, her hand is just too far from the knife to grab it, so she grabs a rock and smashes it into the undead head above her. With it being too small to really be a weapon, Alicia uses this reprieve to grab her knife and stab it into the infected’s head as it begins to lunge at her.

With the fight over, Alicia returns to her feet and wipes her knife on her pants. With that done, she walks into the former laundromat and looks about. Most of the laundry machines have been moved to the windows as barrier, leaving open space for sleeping bags, tents, and all sorts of containers. A few bodies have been shot and are still rotting. The smell will make Alicia to visibly cringe as she explores the ruined shelter. It’s clear there’s probably nothing worth taking in the place, judging by how ruined everything is. Walking behind the front desk, Alicia hears a noise that causes her to look to her left. Inside what appears to be a breakroom is an infected that’s been stabbed through the chest, unable to pull itself free from the spike and just weakly trying to reach out at Alicia.

Walking into the room, Alicia will look at the infected for a bit before noticing a pair of dead bodies close by it. It appears to be a man holding a boy to them. Looking closer, Alicia notices a pistol laying hear the man’s hand and bullet hole in both the heads. Both bodies also have bite marks on them, with the man having what might be a broken arm as well. Realizing these people were probably a father holding and killing himself and his son, Alicia takes a step back and sits in a chair to look at them and the still struggling infected reaching out for her.

“Somebody once said to me that I was one of the lucky ones since I was still alive. What’s lucky about any of this?” She’ll gesture with her stump at the motionless and growling dead bodies, which do not reply. She’ll continue by saying, “I used to go to high school and my biggest problem was whether or not my drug addict brother overdosed. Now he and most of the people I knew before are either dead or you,” she’ll continue, looking at the pinned infected. She’ll continue that she once had a boyfriend who was bit and who she didn’t put down. Remembering him (Matt Sale) and the tattoo he put on her arm at the start of the series, she’ll look down at her left hand where the tattoo is still there.

“What would he say if he saw me now…?”

Another pause and Alicia will wonder out loud how she’ll be able to survive now with just one hand. How is she going to keep mother and friends safe? She just fought three infected on her own and she almost lost her life when she could handle them easier with both hands. And more importantly, how is she just going to live? She can’t even grab a glass of water anymore. Here, tears start to come out of her eyes and she slams her fist into her lap, furious at how powerless she now is. Her dead audience remains silent and her undead audience continues its useless grabs at her. At this point Alicia has had enough and screams at the dead person before throwing a can at it. It hits the side of its head, but doesn’t stop it from its unending reaching for her.

Fresh tears join the ones she’s already shed as the youngest surviving member of the Clark family glooms in her own weakness. Unable to stay a minute longer, she goes to leave, but notices a small cooler next to the dead corpses. Kneeling down, she picks it up and opens it to find some leftover medicine. There’s also a needle with a safety cap on it. Taking it, she looks down at it, reminded of Nick and how he used drugs to get away from things and to unwind. She pulls the cap off and hesitates, wondering how it would feel like to feel how he used to feel. We’ll have a long pause of her face and the needle until she puts the cap.

In the next scene, it’s late afternoon and we’ll see Alicia walking out of the laundromat with the cooler and back towards Bloomfield. After following her for a while we’ll hear the roar of an engine coming up and Alicia notes the vehicle coming towards her. She doesn’t stop walking as it stops not far ahead of her. Immediately we see Madison jumping out of the car and running towards her daughter, berating her for jumping over the wall on her own. But Alicia doesn’t answer, just still walking onwards towards Bloomfield. It’s only until her mother pleads with her to stop that Alicia does, looking back just to see her mom hugging her close, murmur how she can’t lose her too.

Alicia, unable to go on, hesitantly hugs back before being helped into the truck with her mom. As everyone now drives back to Bloomfield, Madison hears June on her walkie. Answering it, Madison tells June that she found Alicia outside the walls. When June asks why she was out there, Madison doesn’t answer. We get a very long pause from both women until June tells Madison her she’s coming over. Madison begins to protest, but June tells her she needs to come over, that she’ll be there soon. As the truck reaches Bloomfield gates we cut to black.

For our final segment of the episode, we watch Daniel and John return to the river community. June will be there to greet both, but will tell John that she needs to go to Bloomfield for a bit. She’ll have a satchel over her shoulder as she takes the keys off Daniel. Before she can go though John meets with her and tells her that he wants to spend his life with her, but he feels he wants to know her more before they tie the knot. This’ll shock June and John Dorie will continue that he still thinks they have much to learn from each other before they can be wed. June will smile and say she likes that before kissing him. After they share the kiss, June takes the vehicle and immediately heads off to Bloomfield. John will thank Daniel for the words and the two will part ways, John to keep watch for her return and Daniel to head home, where Skidmark is looking through the window at him.

We’ll cut here to Farah, who has returned from her time at the oil field and sees Alicia. She’ll call out to her and take her to the clinic, where she tells her to wait. When Alicia asks what’s up, Farah tells Alicia that June wants to talk. We’ll get a long pause to stimulate a small timejump and then a knock at the door. June will enter and look at Alicia. There’s so much dejection in her eyes that June feels herself feel she should go. But she stays. She has to for this. She’ll start off by saying her mom told her what she did today. There’s silence from Alicia. June, anxious in her state, apologizes for taking off Alicia’s arm, she just thought it was the only way for her to live. But before she can full express this Alicia interrupts her by saying she shouldn’t be sorry because she saved her life. That’s more important that an arm. Alicia knows that, but tells June that some days she wishes she was dead. But whenever she has thought that she’d hate herself for thinking such thoughts. She’ll then tell June she did make the right decision.

“It has been hard, but I’m getting better and will keep getting better. It’s not been easy and never will be, but I’ll learn to live with it. And it’s all thanks to you.”

June, an expression of sorrow and relief on her face, hugs Alicia, to which the teen returns. Just after the hug, Farah comes in and stops halfway through opening the door. Before she can leave, June calls her in, saying she should be here too. When Alicia asks why, June responds by opening the satchel and showing her something that causes her mouth to drop: A new prosthetic. Its design will be similar to Boozer’s arm prosthetic from Days Gone, with a few hinges and an end in which attachments can be added. Farah explains that they started working on it some time ago because they couldn’t stand Alicia just having a stump for the rest of her life.

Speechless, Alicia will watch as the two other women raise the teens stump and begin the process of attaching it to her arm. We’ll watch this for a minute and once it’s done Alicia will bend her new prosthetic about. It moves pretty well, though not perfectly with this being her first actions with it. As Farah begins to explain how the attachment system to her, Alicia hugs them both at the same time and both return the gesture. What was once despondency has become pure excitement as she moves her new arm about and smiles at how now she feels more like herself.
