The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead Together?

As you’ve seen from my first reviews, I’m a huge fan of The Walking Dead series. The comics, both TV shows, the games, I love them all! The idea of a story taking place after all the crazy carnage from the start of a zombie apocalypse and showing the growth and challenges of dealing with the undead, hostile humans, and all while rebuilding society has kept me hooked on the series for years. And now a crossover between both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead is coming?! No way! It must a trick, this couldn’t be true!
I saw the poster on AMC’s Twitter account though, telling of how worlds were soon going to collide with one another, and I could hardly believe it. At first I thought Fear would soon just assimilate with the original TV show, something I was desperately desiring not to see as Fear has become a much stronger show since the second half of the second season. Even now, near the end of its third season, Fear is getting hugely popular with its memorable characters, unique setting, and distinctive, impacting conflicts. Quickly though I found out, to my relief, that both shows will continue to exist on their own. Robert Kirkman, the original creator of The Walking Dead franchise, told the audience at this year’s New York Comic Con, “I think that we've finally gotten to a place with Fear the Walking Dead where it has its own identify...there are two Walking Dead shows, I'm not going to name them, but there are two...There is one character that is going to go from one show that will go from one show and appear in the other show, that I will not name." To hear Robert Kirkman eagerly telling his fans this news greatly cheered me up, since he has done a fantastic job working on the comics and assisting in the shows. Looking at both series I have a strong feeling that since Fear the Walking Dead is currently behind in the past compared to TWD’s timeline, it will most likely have a character of theirs join the main cast of the original show.
But which character could join the legendary group led by Rick Grimes? The first candidate to come up as a possible Fear crossover character is a small guy from the very beginning of Fear’s first season: Tobias. He is a high school kid who was strangely prepared for the apocalypse before anybody else in sister show, carrying a knife on him even to school and hearing the news of infections in the middle of the United States. Not just that but he made plans to find supplies from the school he used to attend and meet up with his family. But most of all, fans of Fear love him. They’ve been wanting him back in Fear for a long while due to his knowledge and already great survival instincts. So maybe instead of returning to Fear he will come to join The Walking Dead cast, maybe played by an older actor. Who knows, but I think that would be a great choice.
I have already heard theories of stuff like Rick Grimes and Madison Clark have met or are related, due to both of them being born and living most of their lives close to one another in the south-eastern United States and with how they are the current leaders of their respective shows. But that doesn’t seem like a good choice of a crossover character for several reasons: First, she’s too important for the story of Fear right now. I think her actor, Kim Dickens, is an incredible person and actor, but her character is just plain dark. Often I compare her to Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones due to her obsession to keep her children safe, her depressing past, her interactions continually causing trouble for others, and the way she will do whatever she can to succeed in protecting her children and her interests, even at the cost of hundreds of human lives. The idea of Rick and Madison meeting each other would cause a ton of trouble for either group. Madison of course would want to try to get on top and take over, but Rick can be ruthless and already has a strong holding and respect from his friends and allies. Madison would have a high chance (as of now) in getting axed off by the main cast due to her conflicting views if she was to get to Alexandria.
With her separation from the main group due to Madison’s actions, Alicia Clark is the last possible candidate I can see that can to switch to The Walking Dead show. Watching her survive on her own in the last episode, she seems more than capable of handling the undead and hostile humans on her own. That, plus her ability to get along with and assist others might be just what she needs to stay alive. However, how would she get to Washington DC? Well before he died, Jake, her maybe-boyfriend, told her of a few other safe houses in the Pacific Northwest United States that he knows of in case the ranch was to fall (which it did). Whether those places are safe or not, that journey might eventually lead her to Alexandria and the main cast of The Walking Dead.
Beyond these guesses, the future is open to possibilities. Season three of Fear the Walking Dead is nearing its end so there’s plenty that can still happen, especially with how the last few episodes have gone. If not next year, this crossover will begin the year after in 2019. Either ways though I will be eagerly discussing with fellow Walking Dead fans about the future for both shows. And for those who believe the Fear is hardly worth watching, I’ll tell you that while the first season and a half could be better, it’s definitely worth your TV-viewing time. Game of Thrones won’t be back for two years, Preacher and Better Call Saul are on hiatus, and the first two seasons of Fear are available on Hulu. Besides, you don’t want to feel stupid for when the crossover happens and you have no idea who the new character(s)’s backstory is. Trust me, if you love The Walking Dead, you’ll love Fear the Walking Dead.
